Once again, the Kentucky Pork Producers Association sponsored the State Swine Production Proficiency Award at the Kentucky FFA State Convention in June.
According to the National FFA Organization, “Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through their supervised agriculture experiences [projects], have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers. Students can compete for awards in 49 areas covering everything from Agricultural Communications to Wildlife Management.”
The winner of the 2018 Swine Production Entrepreneurship Proficiency award is Dylan Gilbert from the Scott County FFA Chapter.
Gilbert is the owner and operator of RedBud Valley Farm, a Kentucky Proud show pig farm in Stamping Ground. As state winner, Gilbert’s proficiency was sent on to compete at the national level.
Gilbert is a sophomore at Murray State University, majoring in pre-veterinary medicine. After graduation he hopes to attend veterinary school and ultimately become an equine veterinarian.
