Harned’s Drive-In, Inc of Paducah was named the 2012 Kentucky Pork Producers Association Restaurant of the Year on January 19, 2013 at the Kentucky Pork Producers Association annual meeting in Bowling Green.

Established in 1955, Harned’s Drive-In is known for their hickory smoked bar-b-q pork shoulders and sugar cured hams. Their unique chili dog has become so popular over the years that it has come to be known as the “Paducah Dog.”

Today, Harned’s Drive-In is owned and operated by brothers Rick, Rock and Rhet Harned, all of Paducah, who still use the same secret hot sauce and chili recipes their grandparents, Slim and Annie Harned, and parents, Joe and Juanita Harned, once used.

“Harned’s is a third generation family drive in that continues to serve some of the best pork bar-b-q anywhere,” said Bonnie Jolly, executive director of the Kentucky Pork Producers Association.

Rick Harned accepted the award on behalf of Harned’s Drive-In, Inc. at the annual meeting.

“I can’t imagine that my granddaddy or my daddy either one would have ever imagined we’d get something like this,” Harned said.

“If you all keep making pigs, we’ll keep making bar-b-q,” Harned promised the pork producers in attendance at the awards banquet.

The Pork Restaurant of the Year is selected by the Kentucky Pork Producers Association board of directors and awarded to a pork restaurant that best markets and merchandises pork to its customers while demonstrating quality and originality in its pork entrees.
